Softanol® Products are nonionic surfactants obtained by adding ethylene oxide (EO) to linear secondary alcohols having alkyl carbon atoms ranging between 12 and 14. This series includes products with different HLB values and users can select the type to suit their purpose. The products in this series have the most extensive usage.
The Softanol® EP series are obtained by adding ethylene oxide (EO) and propylene oxide (PO) to the linear secondary alcohol. They are characterised by their extremely low foaming properties. They also have a low pour point and excellent wetting characteristics and are therefore suitable for a great number of industrial applications.
Softanol® Products can be represented with the generalised formula:
with n+m= 9 ~ 11, x indicating the average number of ethylene oxide(EO) groups and y indicating the average number of propylene oxide (PO) groups .
In Chemical Abstracts Softanol® Products are catalogued under the CAS register number 68131-40-8.
Softanols have an CTFA-INCI registration and are EPA/FDA approved.
